From 1987 to 1993, South America was my adventure and my home. Those years were essential in shaping my cultural background, artistic and aesthetic taste, values, worldview, and personality.
The experiences I lived led me to pursue a career in natural sciences while keeping a strong interest in art. After many years working as a researcher, I returned to my studies and earned a diploma in contemporary jewelry art.
As an artist, I like to explore the natural textures and colors of materials such as metals, clay, and natural fibers — and the emotions they can evoke and communicate, sparking both internal and external dialogue.
This project is inspired by South American lands — by the power of their geological structures and the simple, elegant aesthetics of pre-Columbian ceramics, especially the Mapuche of Argentina and Chile.
The pieces were created using layers of natural clays of different colors, evoking the red earths of the Amazon, the mineral layers of the Andes, and the concentric rings of agates and rhodochrosites. The pieces are connected to the body with materials native to these regions: copper, leather, and alpaca.
In their form and essence, these jewels are vessels, vasijas — containers of a bond that transcends time and distance.
